National Law Enforcement and
Corrections Technology Center -South East (NLECTC) announces an expansion of
it's Geographic Training program using Rigel software from Environmental
Criminology Research Inc. (ECRI) .
(January 2nd, 2002, Vancouver,
BC)Environmental Criminology Research Inc. (ECRI) announced that the
NLECTC - South East, an arm of the US Department of Justice, has purchased 4
Rigel geographic profiling systems (completed with installation and support
services). These additional systems will complement NLECTC's existing Rigel
capability and allow the agency to offer it's crime analysis services to a
greater number of police agencies in the USA.
With Rigel, the NLECTC will enhance the efforts
of the RCMP, the OPP, Germany's BKA and the UK's National Crime Faculty, in the
training of new geographic analysts and profilers.
"The NLECTC is a leader in bringing advanced
technology to law enforcement agencies across the United States", said Ian
Laverty, president and CEO of ECRI. "The highly-publicized success of our Rigel
geographic profiling system has brought greatly-increased demand for geographic
profiling services from agencies of all sizes. We are excited that the NLECTC
is expanding their innovative training program for crime analysts to make
geographic profiling more widely accessible as an investigative tool."
The NLECTC (www.nlectc.org ), an agency whose
mandate is to evaluate new technologies and provide technological services to
police agencies, has created a training centre for law enforcement agencies
wishing to implement geographic analysis of serial crime. In addition, the
NLECTC provides training, pilot systems and analytical services to smaller
agencies that have limited technological capability. In North America the
increase in crime has presented significant problems to the 17,000+ law
enforcement agencies across the USA. ECRI's geographic profiling system enables
law enforcement agencies to identify the residence of serial criminals and
repeat offenders, and help reduce the costs of criminal investigations.
With Rigel, the NLECTC will enhance the efforts
of the RCMP, the OPP, Germany's BKA and the UK's National Crime Faculty, in the
training of new geographic analysts and profilers.
ECRI is a privately held Vancouver based
software company providing products and services to law enforcement agencies
around the world.
